Why did you choose WCM?
Access to music was never a given when I first picked up the guitar, found my voice, and began writing songs. Because of that, I never take creative opportunities for granted. The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music has built a beautiful tradition of widening the circle and making the arts accessible to all. Stepping into this community is a grounding experience filled with learning and unlearning. There is nothing more exciting than taking what the stage and the craft teach me and sharing that back with the community.
Describe a musical experience that had a positive impact on you:
Learning voice under Celia Lobo gave me technique; poetry gave a cushion to my emotions; songwriting tied it all together. Over years of performing in empty rooms and full houses alike, giving emotions a distinct shape through music has been humbling way of connecting with people. And in the process, both me and people who spend time with my work feel seen.
